How Soon We Forget . . .

. . . how fast the weather forecast for Amarillo can change. I grew up here but left almost 47 years ago. I think this forecast went from 1 inch of snow and temps in the 30's and 40's to between 10 and 20 inches and temps in the teens with blizzard and whiteout conditions. I don't think we will head for home tomorrow as planned. Get to visit an extra day or two with Mom. She always says we bring this weather with us, 'cause it usually does snow when we come!

Happy Birthday, Dennis!

Congratulations to one of our congregation. We had a surprise birthday party for him after evening service at the church. Dennis turned 90 years old on Valentine's Day. We all sang Happy Birthday to him this evening.

There was a great turnout for Dennis and his wife, Helen. We had a beautiful birthday cake and all kinds of food and desserts. His children were there as well. They spoke of his great faith and example to them and all of us in following the Lord.

I know he has been a great influence to both my DH and I. When my DH had bypass surgery, Dennis or at times, Helen, called every day to check on him and see if I needed anything. They are awesome people!!

Sweetheart Banquet 2013

We attended the 2013 Sweetheart Banquet at our church on Saturday and had a great time. It is for all our age 60 and older “sweethearts”. The theme this year was “Let’s Make A Deal” based on the old TV game show. We were to wear our craziest decorated hat.
Younger members of our congregation served as host delivering a delicious meal of three kinds of soup, two excellent salads, bread sticks and dessert.

They planned a nice evening. We voted on the best hat and there were some really good ones. The "lady in the red hat" won.

Also voted on a king and queen. This lovely couple were chosen.

We had to guess the number of candies in one jar and the number of calories in another. My DH won a bear because he had a sticker on the back of his chair and I won the jar of heart saying candies for coming closest to the calorie count.

We  played Let's Make a Deal. We were given a small gift and offered the chance to exchange it for what was behind door number 1, 2, or 3. It was a lot of fun and very enjoyable evening for all.

The prizes we brought home with us.

I was not very creative with my hat. DH supplied the orange "braids".
