Dorcas Sewing Circle Event 8-22-15

Our Dorcas group had a very productive sewing session on Saturday at the church. My DH and I set up the room with a little help from a friend (Thanks, Paul for help with the cutting tables). Love those two adjustable tables so we did not have to bend over to cut fabric.

At the machines were Linda Russell, Pearl Wadsworth, Madeline Skinner, Barbara Sexton, Leta Archer, Patsy Glover, Debra Moore, (me) Chris Biggerstaff, Judy Blair, Mary Tuck and Shirley Newton.

We had some extra help from Michelle Bagwell and Judy Blair's granddaughter, Macayla. Macayla was given an extra machine for her use and helped some with pillow stuffing. Several ladies brought sandwiches and chips for lunch along with ice tea.
We ended up with 6 breast cancer pillows, 16 blankets, 12 book bags, 3 adult bibs and 4 diaper shirts. Several of these ladies took fabric home to continue sewing as well as other ladies from our Azle Church of Christ congregation.

This is a great ministry and we try to meet at least quarterly. We have ladies who sew or iron or cut patterns and we really appreciate all the help and fellowship.

TAKING OUT A CAST IRON BATHTUB!
This youtube makes it look so easy - it was NOT!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9_GJPi-gEw
We tried everything we could to slide it out but there was no way without pulling walls down. We saw the video but it took more hammer power than we had. It was dated 12-15-61 and very thick and heavy. Thanks Paul for all your help!!
Just hope the new one goes in easier than the old one came out. At least it won't be as heavy.

Chevron Versus Chevron "Flipped" Quilt
I have been wanting to make a Chevron quilt for some time. I laid it all our and had only stitched a couple of rows when my DH suggested I turn the second one upside down. I didn't really like the looks of it then.

But after I finished ALL the rows, I asked him to help me flip every other one upside down and I LOVE it. So I will call it "Chevron Flipped"!! I am anxious to do the quilting on it.
Piecing A Quilt -
The Granddog!
We are keeping the granddog, Coco for our son and family while they decided where they wanted to live until retirement with the Army. Looks like they will stay in Austin area and Coco will be with us for awhile.
Coco is a sweet dog and we have kept her a number of times in the past. She gets along well with our two Daisy and Darlin'.
I discovered something about her this time. At 2:00am one day last week, I woke up to what sounded like a hammer banging on metal. It was Coco banging against the door of her kennel so hard that she vibrated it across the kitchen floor.
I let all three dogs out, she got a big drink of water and went outside with the other two. I put them back in their kennels when they came in and went back to bed.
I had barely laid down when she started it again - she did not want that door closed!!! So I opened her door and closed the kitchen door. She is happy with that, thank goodness.
I spoke to our son and he said she does not like the door closed. It is OK if you are in the room with her but not when she is alone. She is a good girl and a people puppy.

Samsung SO CALLED customer service.
My DH bought me a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 inch tablet (Titanium Bronze) along with the matching Samsung keyboard/case. I received it on June 14th and it worked fine for about a month, then the keyboard started acting up and quit pairing with the tablet.

We have a Logitech bluetooth keyboard that pairs right up with it but the Samsung one made for it will NOT work.
We tried every suggestion we heard about to make it work, including a hard reset on July 21st that Samsung told us would take care of it -it did not!
My HD spent over 2 hours on the phone today, July 24th, being transferred from one person to another to another. Finally got a tech person, who had us turn contol of tablet to him and he worked for a long while trying to fix it. He finally said the keyboard is bad and told us to tell that to the person he was transferring us to. That person started all over again with questions, not listening to us or what the other tech said.
HD posted on Samsung facebook page as well as a review on Amazon about the keyboard and their customer service.
So I guess I have a tablet with no keyboard/case unless I use the larger Logitech separately. I am not pleased at all with Samsung's customer service or warranty. I will not purchase another from them.
